Apple's Mac OS X comes with many useful tools, one of which is Mail.app - an email client with a lot of nice features. While we don't support Mail.app directly, there's not a lot of problems with using it (I used it myself for quite some time, until a bug with a GPG plugin made me switch to Thunderbird entirely --huston).
Configuring access to mail.astro
- If this is the first time you've launched Mail, you'll be greeted with the New Account Assistant. If you've opened it before, you may instead need to go to Mail -> Preferences, select Accounts, and click the plus sign
- In the first dialog, select "Other Mail Account..." and hit Continue
- Next, enter your name (as you want it to appear on your email), Email address (username@astro.princeton.edu), and Password, and hit Sign In
- You may get an error message "Unable to verify account name or password. This is fine.
- Now fill out the dialog as follows:
- Username: <username>
- Note, do *not* add the @astro.princeton.edu suffix
- Password: <your password>
- Account Type: IMAP
- Incoming Mail Server: mail.astro.princeton.edu
- Outgoing Mail Server: mail.astro.princeton.edu
- Click Sign In
- In the "Select the apps you want to use with this account" dialog, only check "Mail". Hit Done.
