Apple's Mac OS X comes with many useful tools, one of which is - an email client with a lot of nice features. While we don't support directly, there's not a lot of problems with using it (I used it myself for quite some time, until a bug with a GPG plugin made me switch to Thunderbird entirely --huston).

Configuring access to mail.astro

  1. If this is the first time you've launched Mail, you'll be greeted with the New Account Assistant. If you've opened it before, you may instead need to go to Mail -> Preferences, select Accounts, and click the plus sign
  2. In the first dialog, select "Other Mail Account..." and hit Continue
  3. Next, enter your name (as you want it to appear on your email), Email address (, and Password, and hit Sign In
    • You may get an error message "Unable to verify account name or password. This is fine.
  4. Now fill out the dialog as follows:
    • Username: <username>
    • Note, do *not* add the suffix
    • Password: <your password>
    • Account Type: IMAP
    • Incoming Mail Server:
    • Outgoing Mail Server:
  5. Click Sign In
  6. In the "Select the apps you want to use with this account" dialog, only check "Mail". Hit Done.
